Placanica, or anciently 'Motta', it rose to work of the friats basiliani, which considered the coast a little sure places for their conventual installations. Around 1000 theyclimbed along the course of the fiumara Precariti and they builttwo monasteries tenkilometers from the coast. The first onewas built around 1283 on top of the ridge among the valley of the fiumara
precariti and that of the stream Fiorello; the other, a jewel architectural more modest dimensions, in Titi Convento, fraction of Placanica. Around the
first one, built on square base, the humble hovels rose and now caratterize St. Leonardo Suburb. But not too much remains of the primitive style of the monastery. The building, for its pleasant and dominant position, was turned into the castle
(sec XVI-XVII) during the Spanish domination to work of the vassals that alternated: Caracciolo(1513-1572s); De Licandro(1572-1637); Daragona of Ajerbe(1637); Passarelli (1637-1645); Dominican friats of Soriano(1645-1654) and Musitano. At the end of the XVII century both the castle and the church of S. Basilio, contemporarily erected by
the monks Basiliani close monastery, suffered such transformations that almost entirely cancelled every sign of Byzantine art.
